Things To Consider Before You Hire A Skip In Dublin

Whether you are having a great deal of work done on your home or garden or just looking to de-clutter. Then it worth thinking about hiring a skip to help get rid of anything that isn’t wanted or needed. But when it comes to skip hire there are a number of things that you need to consider before you. Also, there are certain things you need to be aware of after you’ve hired the skip.

Below we are going to offer up some useful information that will make the whole process of hiring a skip here in Dublin a great deal easier. So you won’t just end up saving yourself time but also money.

Finding The Right Skip

A quick search online and you will discover there are plenty of options to choose from. But before you even look to hiring such equipment there is one thing you need to consider.

You need to work out how much stuff it is you want to place in the skip. This will then determine the size of skip you need to hire. If you’ve just decided to have a de-clutter then a mid-size (midi) skip would be your best option. However, if you are intending to carry out some major refurbishment works to your home or garden then hiring a large skip would be your best option.

How Much Will I Get Charged?

As you will notice the price for each skip does vary quite a bit. Not only is it dependent on the size of skip you hire but also the type. For a skip expect to have to pay between say €145 and €700.

It does pay to shop around but as you will see here at A Plus Skips, we offer some of the most competitive rates for the skips we have available.

However, there are a couple of ways that can help to keep the costs down when it comes to hiring such equipment.

Are you intending to get rid of any large bulky items? If you are before you do look at the condition of them. For example, if you want to put a sofa in your skip take a careful look at it you may find that some second-hand furniture shops or charity stores would be willing to take such items off your hand. However, they need to be in pretty good condition and of course meet all relevant fire safety standards.

Also, you need to make sure that the skip doesn’t have large amounts of empty space within it when you fill it up. Rather than putting in a wardrobe as it is, take the time to break it up.

Do I Need A Permit?

If the skip you hire is going directly on to your property say the driveway then you won’t need to arrange to get a permit. However, if the skip is going to be placed on the main road outside your home then a permit will be needed. Here at A Plus Skips, we will be able to advise you if a permit is required or not.

The fees charged by Dublin City Council for a skip permit is €27 a day in areas without paid parking. But in areas where paid parking is to be found the charges vary from €19 to €50 per day.

What You Are Allowed To Put In Your Skip

Unfortunately, you cannot put just anything in the skip you’ve hired. The main items that you should never put in a hired skip are as follows:

  1. Electrical Goods
  2. Hazardous Materials
  3. Old Mattresses

If such items are found in the hire skip you can be faced with the cost of having to dispose of such items in the correct manner.
